Not dead yet.

So its been a while, I have been putting lots of effort into assembling and converting Empire troops only to have a new army book which seemingly nerfs them. So they have been pushed asside and the Ogres are back in the spot light. I present some hasty snaps of my IronBlaster, all finished and ready for the next game.

Gaming has been going well, finally getting to see some Mantic undead on the board (unfortunately teaching the empire how to loose) the Ogres have been having fun with Chaos warriors and we are seeing the tables split each week between 40k and Fantasy. Now all I need to do is figure out what I need to do with my Skaven, poor little blighters.

I been working on my Tyrant sculpt as well, its getting there. Poor Malifaux is sitting dead in the water. Oh and I ordered Battle Masters off TradeMe, apparantly in near mint condition, so I’m looking forward to that.

Oyumaru 2 Part Mold

oyumaru-2-part-mould-1 oyumaru-2-part-mould-3 oyumaru-2-part-mould-2

So I have been playing with my Oyumaru a wee bit and so far I have put swords and shields on 30 spearmen, replaced the mortar barrel that sadly got converted into  lead beltcher and now its time to fix up my Halberdiers. I have 25 proper state troops, 9 of the realy old plastic halberdiers, 3 random bretonians and the remaining 13 to make the 50 man horde is starter box spearmen, I hate spears.

I made my mould from a HeroQuest Man at arms halberd as its slightly chunkier and will be easier to work with, I keyed my mould using the corner of dice this time which was a big win. Anyway, I still have to figure out the mould making properly befor I try writing a tutorial on it. What you see above though is how I fill a 2 part mould with dukit polymer clay which stays soft until its baked.

The left pic is materials, Mould Clay and I am pre pinning with a paper clip, which also allows me to stick it in cork and cook it standing up.

Next wet the mould and carefully place small pieces of putty in the recess, since the mould is wet the putty will stick yo your hands if you try and push it in. You want a little more putty than is required

Step 3 is just wetting the other half of the mould and pushing the 2 mould halves together. The very thin coat of water (or saliva if your like me) actas as a release agent so the piece should just pop out easily, as shown in the right picture above.

Run that process a few times and you get a little forest of halberds, i used pliars to push them into the cork =]

Anything to get a post up

oyumaru magnetic-movement-trays

Hi All, I’m back in the new year and boy have I been playing to much xbox =D. I cracked 100,000 game score over christmas yay. Skyrim, Gunstringer, rage and SpaceMarine all contributed and now I have been stuck on MW3 for far to long. I am starting to ballance things out though and getting some regular posts going is part of the plan.

I have been pottering with my models toying with some true scale marines and painted all the metal on another 18 Ogre bulls. Today is a look at what I am currently working on. Above is a pic of the materials I used for making magnetic movement trays and a product called Oyumaru which is apparently the original name of instant mold. Oyumaru is a thermoset resin that allows you to make push molds and its reusable. More on that in days to come. You can buy Oyumaru from a couple places in NZ;

Art Clay NZ Here : which has a better price

Hands Craft : which is where I got mine with very prompt service and a better product pic on the site, at the time of writing I was unable to find the link to the product

Below we have pictures of my fledgling empire force and my Skaven horde layed out. My garage has become quite disorganised and I had models in boxes all over the show.Part of the tidy up this time will be done by building custom movement trays and getting proper shelving.

Insert Pun about Bulls

ogre-kingdoms-bulls-red-finished-right-iso-medium ogre-kingdoms-bulls-red-finished-left-iso-medium ogre-kingdoms-bulls-red-finished-front-medium

Just a quick update on the progress, Here are three pics showing the finished 9 strong bull unit. I have 3 such units and plan to make atleast a couple up to 18 strong hordes and I am also going to need atleast a couple more banners as I found having a couple 3 strong skermish units of ogres can realy soak up a bit of fire and clear out pesky units like hounds and maruders quite well… with a little luck they can even send a giant running off the field crying for his mummy =]

I decided to redouble my efforts on the IronBlaster cannon which I must take a WIP of, its currently about half painted. I have also pulled up the unit of 12 Iron guts for the next unit, they are trucking along nicely with all the metal nearly complete. They have a little more detail bits on them but I am getting faster at painting ogres now that my colour schemes is locked in and sorted.

I have added shoulders onto my sculpt but have yet to bake them… I just cant seem to get them just right.

The Swing of Things

ogre-kingdoms-lead-belchers-complete-unit ogre-kingdoms-lead-belchers-front

So After a mini cleanup in my workshop I as able to take some nicer pics of my work so far. First we see the completed unit of 6 Lead Belchers, these guys are going so well for me in the games they had to be first and I have to make 6 more =D

Since these were assembled back in 7th Ed rules they were going to be run as 2 units of 3 and they dont rank up well. The next 6 will be made to ensure they rank up properly behind this lot.

The second lot of shots are better quality pics of the Bulls, There is still a bit of wood and a design on the standard and a few details on the lookout Gnobler left to finish. The clubs were holding me up a little cause there is more work to them then the swords.

Blood was added to weapons, Iron Fists and gutplates on all the bulls, I tried not to go overboard with it as I am not a big fan of blooded models. I find the result is quite pleasing. I got a little slack with the hand prints on these guys and will likely be that way inclined with all the close combat ogres.

I have been wondering what the next unit will be either more bulls (18 to go) or the unit of 12 iron guts. Iron guts are going to be a little more effort due to the added number of armour plates. I am of course tempted to get my crazy on and put up 2 units and work on 20 odd ogres at once but then the tedium and pace might kick in. Check back soon. Progress is inevitable
